Smoke in Jeopardy

Disclaimer: No Humans Were Hurt in the Making of This Story
The long-awaited verdict in the case “City Burnt into Ashes” was finally delivered yesterday.
The case had been filed by the residents of Jeopardy Town, where a devastating fire had reduced much of the city center to ruins. Though no lives were lost, the destruction left countless residents homeless and stripped the city of its core infrastructure. A group of Dragons had been arrested, suspected of orchestrating the blaze.
The accused, however, described their actions as a “fair act.”
The entire Animal Kingdom condemned the incident, expressing collective grief and extending support to the Human Body in this hour of crisis.
Demanding justice, the Human Body sought strict punishment for the Dragons. But in a turn that has shaken public faith, the court ruled in favor of the accused, citing insufficient evidence and the mysterious disappearance of the sole eyewitness.
The verdict has since ignited widespread outrage.
Protests have erupted across regions, voices rising in defiance against what many are calling a grave miscarriage of justice. Public Prosecutor Miss Mermaid, representing the Human Body, expressed deep dissatisfaction with the ruling and announced plans to appeal in the Almighty’s Court of Justice next week.
While the Wildlife Committee has formally extended condolences, the suffering of the Human Body appears only partially acknowledged.
Attacks by Rafflesia, relentless invasions of microbes and viruses, and even the poaching of human children for their brains, these ongoing threats remain disturbingly normalized.
Sources suggest that prior warnings had already been issued to the Human Body: restrict exploration, remain within designated territories, and avoid further intrusion, lest it result in loss of human lives.
Yet, not all narratives lean toward sympathy.
A growing group of critics argues that the Human Body is merely facing the consequences of its own actions.
Deforestation. Shrinking tropical forests. Recurring wildfires. Ozone depletion. Global warming.
All stand as scars of an ever-expanding human footprint and of progress pursued without restraint.
For generations, the Animal Kingdom has endured silent suffering under human dominance with polluted oceans, collapsing ecosystems, senseless killings for sport and trade, and the systematic erasure of flora and fauna. These acts were often justified under the banner of “evolution.”
Now, the balance has shifted.
No longer secure at the top of the food chain, the Human Body finds itself vulnerable, caught in the very cycle it once set in motion.
And the world remembers.
As unrest spreads, fears resurface that civilization may once again descend into the shadows of the Dark Age (2100–2200),a period few dare to revisit.
Yet, even in this uncertainty, hope persists.
Several groups have stepped forward in support of the Human Body. Among them, the Elephanta, Unicornry, Little Sparrows, and Stegosaurusia have worked tirelessly to restore normalcy in Jeopardy Town. A relatively new collective, The DODO, has also emerged as a symbol of resilience through its remarkable humanitarian efforts.
Now, in the year 2500,shaped by the lessons of the past,a message echoes across the state:
“In these testing times, we stand in solidarity with all who share this planet. We honor those who rebuild, those who protect, and those who continue to endure.”
